Hridaynath Gharekhan
Hridaynath Gharekhan is a filmmaker now based in Ahmedabad, in India. He has been producing and directing documentary films for the past Twenty years. He has produced many programs for children, on Gujarati literature and numerous cultural programs during his stint as Program Executive in Doordarshan, the official Indian television channel. Since his resignation from Doordarshan, he has been working as an independent producer. He has won a National Award in 1998, and his films have been shown in various National and International festivals. He has won the Best Director of the year 2003 award of the Gujarat State Government. He has also won the IDPA Certificate of Merit 2009 for his film on Gujarat Tourism “A Window to Gujarat” and he has been felicitated by CMS VATAVARAN Festival for “Generating mass awareness through films on Climate change, Environment and Wild Life related issues” in January 2011. As a member of the Pak India Peoples’ Forum for Peace and democracy, he produced a film “Talking Peace” that examines the history of the hostile relations between India and Pakistan, and efforts by various organizations to negotiate for peace.
He has directed many documentary films on wildlife, forest, and climate change and women empowerment. At present he is working on a film, called “Hostile Borders” that looks at the effect of this hostility on the Pak- India border and its effect on people living and working along the border. He contributes to mainstream Indian cinema regularly, especially for films that use Pakistan and the border areas as a backdrop.
